Connecting Student's Popular Technology with Math Education A "student friendly" Math classroom destines participants for success.  The set up, technology and software used to create technology pods which give each and every small group of students on-demand access to the computer, internet, graphing calculator, and virtual textbook.  Students communicate their math knowledge orally, textually, visually, and digitally.  Go beyond calculations skills to math applications in a project environment. 6-12 Math 3-24 9:45-10:30
Using Photo Story 3 in the Classroom Learn how to create and use PhotoStory 3 in your classroom. Ideas on how to integrate PhotoStory 3 in content areas will be shared! K-5 Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies 3-19 11:00-11:45
Is it virtual, or is it Memorex?  Virtual Fieldtrips Virtual field trips: another tool to integrate TEKS and connect student understanding in a unique and exciting way!  Pre- and post activities tie everything together.  See videos of students who have been on trips and connected with experiences and experts outside of the classroom...without leaving the classroom.  A grant proposal example will be provided for participants who do not have equipment available. High School Access Point Create a project using Microsoft Access which uses the students' favorite music as the data.  I will go through how I lead my BCIS students into building a table, queries, and reports.  Then I will show how I grade the project and provide rubrics that will illustrate the grading of individual reports. 9-12 Other 2-12 11:00-11:45
Video Broadcasting This broadcasting experience will demonstrate how to set up a student operated television studio utilizing broadcast studio equipment to produce school programs.  Participants will be shown what type of equipment is needed and how students use it.  A discussion of cost and how funding can be achieved will be conducted.  Attendees will view an example of a morning program from Chula Vista Academy of Fine Arts. Utilizing an Elmo and Interwrite in the classroom See various ways we utilize the ELMO document camera and Interwrite pads in our classrooms as well as lesson ideas. K-12 All 3-21 11:00-11:45
Integrating Technology in the Music Room Many teachers seldom use technology in the class because of the nature of the beast.  In this workshop we will show music teachers what free websites are available for use to integrate technology and music into the core areas.  We will demonstrate how effective using music inside the classroom can be for drilling, memory, and retention. Game Shows Teachers will learn to create various types of game show quizzes, including games that are similar to Jeopardy, Millionaire and Hollywood Squares.  Templates will be available, if needed.  These games are an excellent and fun way to engage the student while reviewing any skill or TAKS practice. Utilizing Technology to Modify for Students with Special Needs This presentation comes from my experiences of working through the Reading Rods books with my students who are struggling readers.  I will show the steps I took to bring a good reading program into a program that was modified to meet the needs of my students.  Steps will include failures and partial successes as well as the final steps that I continue to use.  Steps include moving from fill-in the blank tests printed for the students, to tests with drop down lists to be completed on the computer to working on comprehension tests on the computer using PowerPoint.  In addition, use of a webcam/video cam to read the books to the students will be shown.  This program is designed to be very much like what I will present at TCEA in February.   K-5 Reading 3-22 12:15-1:00
Universal Design for Learning:  Reaching All Students The Universal Design Solution will address the crucial questions about how to provide full access to the general education curriculum for all learners, especially those with disabilities. Participants will be better prepared to meet the challenge of teaching diverse learners in an inclusive environment by creating flexible goals, methods, materials and assessments that enable students with diverse needs and learning styles to be successful in the classroom. Microsoft Access Introduction to Microsoft Access--create a simple database, view the contents for the database, and create a table and report. K-12 Other 2-12 9:45-10:30
Innovate and Integrate Participants will learn how to seamlessly integrate technology into their content areas.  Emphasis will be on the creative use of Internet resources such as Filimentality to create hotlists, scavenger hunts, or webquests to compliment any content area.  In addition, participants will be given examples of technology-based project ideas for classroom use. 6-12 Other 3-21 9:45-10:30
Lights, Camera, Action with MovieMaker! This workshop will teach participants how to create Movie Maker projects using still images, video clips, and sound.  First, we will demonstrate how to save images, video clips, and sound files from the Internet.  Then we will demonstrate how to import images, video clips and sound files into Movie Maker.  We will also show participants how to add titles, video effects, transitions, and credits.  We will also demonstrate how to save the project to their computer in movie format.  K-12 All 3-21 12:15-1:00
Easy Technology Integration This workshop will teach participants how to integrate technology into their curriculum through easy assignment/project ideas using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  We will demonstrate some projects and also share books and websites for further ideas.  CD's with instruction sheets and examples of several projects will be provided. Help me Flip My PowerPoint! Are your students falling asleep during your presentations?  Make your PowerPoint more interesting by adding sound, video, edited images, clipart, and more!  Rip a song from a CD and if needed use the Sound Recorder from the Accessories file to shorten or merge pieces of songs or clips together.  The group will see how videos are inserted and play during the presentation.  Make your PowerPoints come alive! V4-Virtually Visiting Various Venues Utilizing Google Earth and Google Sky to take your class to places they may never get to see.  This 3-D enhanced program allows you to take your students to areas around the world and sky to visit the topics of your discussion. Reach Out and Teach Someone Prevented by the possibility of contagion from being around the students, our Social Studies/Spanish teacher was going to have to stay home for 6 weeks.  Financial considerations required a solution other than a long term sub.  Utilizing free remote access  and video web conference software along with inexpensive web cameras a simple yet effective video web conference was set up to allow our teacher to teach her class from a remote location (home).  Come hear all about our experiment, what worked and what didn/t and how you might apply it to your situation/s. Podcasting Buffet  Podcasting is a unique way to communicate with a target audience. Podcasts can be used to learn new information, reinforce concepts learned in class, help parents become partners and give students a way to express their ideas. In this presentation participants will be shown where to find podcasts, how to make a podcast using free tools, and how to publish their own podcasts on the web.     3-19 9:45-10:30
Collaborating Online Using a Wiki  Wiki pages are like normal web pages, except they have an "Edit" link that makes it easy to modify existing pages and add new pages into the website, using basic editing rules. You do not need to know or use any HTML. Page editing can be left open to the public or restricted to small groups of authors. Wiki pages can be used for displaying district and teacher information, online tutorials and courses, student projects and community information.     3-24 11:00-11:45
Buc Vision--6 Minute Newscast!  Buc Vision is a 6 minute newscast that airs every Wednesday and is produced by advanced students. The students have to perform in a small group setting and produce various stories during the school year. The students utilize their skills in writing, reading, research, on-camera performance, organization, deadlines, interviews, pre-interviews, and concept of time. 21st Century Learner This workshop will present information on why technology integration is a must in the 21st century to prepare students for the changes going on in our global economy.  It will motivate teachers and school leaders to look for new and innovative ways to use the technology and give some tools to get started.     3-19 8:30-9:15
